Product Description

High Speed Steel Round Bar and Plate

High speed tool steel comprises a set of tool steel alloys named for their capacity to cut materials faster than traditional high-carbon steels previously used in cutting tools.

  • High alloy content, primarily tungsten or molybdenum, with lesser amounts of chromium, vanadium and cobalt;
  • High carbon content - a minimum of 0.65% by weight, but commonly anywhere from 0.8% to 1.5% carbon content;
  • Rockwell hardness of at least 64 HRC at room temperature;
  • Heat treatment process producing a high quantity of complex metallic carbides (tungsten, molybdenum, and vanadium) resulting in superior wear resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes High Speed Steel (HSS) different from carbon steel?
HSS is designed to maintain its hardness even at high temperatures, allowing tools to cut faster than traditional high-carbon steel.
What are the common grades available for HSS?
Common grades include M2, M35 (with Cobalt for higher heat resistance), and M42 (for super-hard cutting applications).
Can you provide mill test certificates?
Yes, Mill Sheet Certificates are provided for all materials to ensure chemical composition and physical properties meet standards.
What surface treatments can be applied to HSS bars?
We offer black, milled, or fully machined surface treatments based on your specific requirements.
What is the typical lead time and production capacity?
Our production capacity is approximately 1000 tons per month, with flexible shipping options for global clients.
Is the material tested for internal defects?
Yes, we perform 100% Ultrasonic Testing (UT) according to Sep1921-84 standards to ensure structural integrity.
